Garmin OnBoard™ is a wireless Man Overboard (MOB) and engine cut-off system that enhances boating safety through seamless integration with compatible Garmin chartplotters. It uses wireless tags to allow boaters to move freely, automatically records a MOB waypoint upon detection, and provides audible alarms.

Freedom to Roam Onboard

Eliminates the need for a physical tether, allowing for greater freedom of movement. Tags can be worn on a wristband, carabiner, or key ring float and designated as either Captain or Passenger.

Designated Captain

Tag a child, elderly parent, or the most inexperienced boater with the Captain sensor to ensure engine cut-off. Should the "Captain" fall overboard, the system will also automatically trigger engine cut-off. The boating captain can also turn off the engine via a button-press on the tag if needed. Now's the Time to Inspect your Transducer

After a gray winter, we're all anxious to start the boating season, but how ready is your boat? If you're planning other launch preparations or maintenance tasks, such as bottom paint or hull work, now is the time to inspect your transducer. Look for:

Scratches, cracks, or gouges
Deterioration from solvent scrubbing
Loose or broken mounting
Dried-out or missing sealant
Damaged or corroded wires

If you experienced inaccurate or no depth readings, grainy sonar images, or erratic sonar behavior last year, it’s a clear sign your transducer is failing.

Many inexperienced installers mount transducers too high or in turbulent areas, creating air bubbles that disrupt sonar signals. If the angle is incorrect, your sonar beam won’t function properly, leading to distorted bottom readings while you’re in motion.

Best Tips for Winterzing

Yes, you must winterize your boat if you’re not in a warm, temperate area. By properly winterizing your boat now, you will save money and avoid surprises when launching your boat in the Spring.

Here are our best tips for winterizing based on a boatload of mistakes we’ve seen when winter thaws.

If you have a depth sounder with CHIRP, you MUST disconnect the transducer to power down the machine if the boat is not in the water. If not, the transducer will overheat and become defective. You’ll not find this out until the boat is launched in the Spring and the transducer is not functioning.
Temporarily Suspend plans with Direct TV and Starlink.
Clean and Cover. If electronics are mounted on a bracket, dismount them and take them home to avoid theft. With our custom installations, add mild soap and fresh water to a microcloth and wash and dry the electronics left aboard. Then, cover each with its appropriate sun cover. Handwash exterior radars, sensors, and thermal cameras to remove salt. Do not use a pressure washer on external electronics.
Save and Store. Store your waypoints, routes, and tracks by saving to an external drive. With multifunction displays, you can back up to a digital card or the app on your mobile device.
Position and Park. Position the thermal camera to the 'park' position so the lens faces down.
Check Antenna Cables and Fittings to ensure they are tightly connected.
Most importantly - do not put shrinkwrap directly on the radar antenna. As shown in the above photo, this is the most common and most damaging technique for shrinkwraping. It will crack the dome. And without an air gap, the electronics inside the dome will sweat and cause water damage. Rob has collected cups of water from within improperly wrapped radar antennas.
